Aug 30 Superintendent Update Graphic

August 30, 2023

Good afternoon, Warren Scholars, Families, and Staff,

We have four important announcements for the week of August 30th.

Just a reminder that the Warren Council PTA Homefest is this Friday, September 1st, from 5:00 - 7:00 and will be taking place on the Northwest corner of the high school's campus! Come check out the over 20 vendors, five food trucks, and games and activities from all of our Warren schools. Please see their website linked here for more information. Look forward to seeing you there! After Homefest, stay for the WCHS Varsity football game against North Central. Tickets can be purchased on our athletics website linked here.

Families, just a reminder that Monday, September 4th is Labor Day, and there is no school. Tuesday, September 5th, is our all-staff professional development day and our first student asynchronous eLearning day. Students in grades 1-12 will access their assignments and activities in Canvas. Kindergarten students will receive a paper copy of their assignments and activities on Friday, September 1st. Students will have five days to complete their assignments. Assignments will not only count as a part of the student's grade but will also be used to count them as present. Additional information will be shared through your child's teachers, and you can visit our eLearning webpage if you have any questions. The 23-24 school calendar is linked here.

Families, we are seeking the assistance of all families who are not directly certified as eligible for free and reduced-price meals to complete a financial assistance application. Yesterday, we contacted families through ParentSquare who are not directly certified. If you received this message, we ask that you complete the application linked here. We will also send physical letters to families not directly certified in the coming days.

To clarify, this does not interfere with breakfast and lunch remaining free to all MSD Warren Township students. This application takes the place of the form used in previous years to apply for textbook rental assistance. Families who qualify for financial assistance may be eligible to participate in the 21st Century Scholars Program, for scholarship opportunities, fee waivers for AP and SAT exams, and more. Furthermore, an accurate count of families eligible for assistance positions the school district to seek grant opportunities to benefit the educational experience of our scholars.

Please Complete or return the completed application by September 22, 2023. If you have questions or need help completing the application, please contact Barb Smith at bsmith@warren.k12.in.us .

MSD Warren Township, in partnership with the Indiana Immunization Coalition, will provide a clinic to accommodate immunizations required for school-age children on Wednesday, September 13, at Moorhead Community Resource Center from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Families are asked to pre-register for this event. The registration link for the immunization clinic is patients.vaxcare.com/registration . After clicking on the link, enter the enrollment code, IN65942, and then select Warren Schools-9/13. Linked here and below are the required immunizations for school-age children for the 23-24 school year.

Thank you for your continued investment for Warren students, schools, and staff. Together…#Warrenwill find the Joy in the Journey. Dr. Tim Hanson, Superintendent of Schools for MSD Warren Township
