The MSD of Warren Township School Board recently approved a partnership with AASA, The School Superintendents Association, to create a K-12 College and Career Readiness Framework that will help students discover their interests, explore career options, and prepare for success after graduation.

This exciting work is made possible through the Lilly Endowment's Marion County K-12 Public Schools Initiative. Thanks to this investment, Warren is creating new opportunities that will help students build the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need for college, careers, military service, apprenticeships, trade programs, and life.

The partnership with AASA is another important step in bringing Warren's Journey of a Graduate vision to life. It also supports the development of Journey of a Graduate (JoG) Centers at Creston, Raymond Park, and Stonybrook Intermediate and Middle Schools. These innovative learning spaces are scheduled to open during the 2027-2028 school year.

Preparing Students for Their Future

At Warren, we believe it is never too early to help students think about their future. Warren Central High School and Walker Career Center already offer more than 25 career pathways, dual-credit classes, industry certifications, internships, and work-based learning opportunities. This new framework will build on those opportunities by helping students begin exploring careers long before they reach high school.

Students will take part in hands-on experiences that help them discover their strengths, learn new skills, and connect what they are learning in the classroom to real careers. From elementary school through graduation, every student will have meaningful opportunities to explore their interests, develop essential skills, and make informed decisions about their future.

"This work is about helping students connect what they are learning today to who they want to become tomorrow," said Superintendent Dr. Tim Hanson. "Every student deserves the chance to discover their passions, explore new opportunities, and build the skills they need for a successful future."

Bringing Learning to Life

Over the next several months, AASA will work with students, families, staff, alumni, business leaders, and community partners to design Warren's new College and Career Readiness Framework. Together, they will create a plan that gives every student meaningful college and career experiences from kindergarten through graduation.

One of the most exciting parts of this work is the creation of the Journey of a Graduate (JoG) Centers at each middle school. These innovative spaces will give students hands-on opportunities to explore careers, use emerging technologies, solve real-world problems, and experience career pathways before they enter high school.

Students will leave middle school with a better understanding of:

  • Their strengths and interests

  • Careers they may want to explore

  • The skills they need for future success

  • The many opportunities available after graduation

By starting career exploration earlier, students will be better prepared to choose classes, earn certifications, and take advantage of the many opportunities available at Warren Central High School and Walker Career Center.

Investing in Every Student's Future

The Lilly Endowment's Marion County K-12 Public Schools Initiative is helping Warren make one of the largest investments in student success in district history. Along with the Journey of a Graduate Centers, this work will strengthen teaching and learning, expand family partnerships, support our staff, and create new opportunities for every student.

As the Pride of the Eastside, Warren is proud to lead the way in creating innovative learning experiences that prepare students for the future. We believe every child deserves opportunities to explore, discover, and dream big long before graduation. Through this work, we are not only preparing students for college and careers—we are helping students discover purpose, build confidence, and develop the skills they need to succeed in life.

Together with AASA, our families, community partners, and staff, Warren is building a future where every student graduates ready for whatever comes next.
