Mario and friends are gearing up for a frenzy on the tennis court in their latest sporting adventure, Mario Tennis Fever. This marks a new entry in the game for the newly released Nintendo Switch 2 console on Feb. 12. The last installment was released over eight years ago and received some criticism for feeling lackluster and stale. In this new entry, players are in for a rowdy and intense ride on the tennis court. This game also marks a special occasion as it’s a part of the Super Mario Bros.’s 40th anniversary. Get your rackets ready to cause some chaos on the court.
Of course, players can’t play tennis without a racket. That’s why Mario and friends have brand new Fever Rackets, with over 30 of them available for players to choose from. When players are playing the usual tennis match, they have a fever gauge, keep the rally going, and unleash a power shot. Depending on what racket they choose, the effects change. For example, having an ice racket can freeze the opposing side of the court, or having a Pokey racket can cause enemies to appear on the court.
There are also new characters in the game that players can play as, along with returning and original characters. There are over 38 playable characters in the game, making it the most in series history. New characters include Goomba, Nabbit, Baby Waluigi, Baby Wario and Wiggler. Each character has their own speed, power, control and spin. This will allow players to choose the character they find is suited for the court, as well as mix and match them with Fever Rackets to have their favorite combo.
With new characters come new modes. The tournament allows players to complete challenges, and the goal is to reach the top of the Trial Towers. Players can play with commentary from the talking flower, making its debut in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder game. In the Ring Shot mode, players will hit the tennis balls through rings presented on screen to earn points. Then there is Forest Court Match, in which players will feed Piranha Plants tennis balls to make the court they play on bigger. Pinball Match has players play on a pinball court and trigger a variety of effects to happen. Racket Factory Match is a mode in which players must hit the tennis ball on a special symbol that appears on the screen and grab a Fever Racket. In the Wonder Court match, players will collect a wonder flower on the court that causes a variety of rowdy chaos to happen. Lastly, players will take on a journey in the Adventure mode, which teaches players different shot types to complete challenges and face bosses that are in their way.
Mario Tennis Fever is the most exciting entry yet in the Mario Tennis series. It offers new ways to spice up gameplay, making the experience thrilling and fun for everyone to enjoy. The pandemonium on the court makes this game fast-paced, keeping players on their toes, and the excitement is only a week away.
