Artificial intelligence, or A.I., was created to help humans. However, it seems to be doing the opposite. People abuse it without thinking first. It’s used over and over and now has killed our generation’s creativity and will to work.
Nowadays, it is common to hear students say they’ll just use A.I. It is frustrating, especially on assignments that require even a small ounce of creativity. It’s slowly turning students into robots, and even some teachers say just ask ChatGPT or other A.I. platforms. This isn’t how students learn. In the long term, after they’re out of school, they won’t know how to problem-solve or think critically.
Though A.I. is slowly destroying people, making them codependent on something that isn’t even right all the time, as well as destroying the environment, it has also killed the thing that makes humans special, our creativity. Slowly, it will be A.I. creating things and not coming from brilliant minds.
Xania Monet is the first “mainstream” A.I. artist. Its songs aren’t creative, yet it has 1.4 million listeners on Spotify. Music is one of the greatest art forms of expression. It can tell a tale of life or evoke emotions you didn’t feel before you listened to the song. It's disrespectful to the artists who try to make real music. Instead, they get beaten out by something that's never lived a day in its life. Something that doesn’t understand emotion except by definition should never make music, let alone art.
Many people spend weeks, sometimes months, making music for an album or an extended play to reach out to people’s hearts and make money. Now, anyone can go to an A.I. song app and create a song. Most aren't good, and all are incapable of the storytelling humans can achieve through song. Despite that, the A.I. generations still sometimes make more money than the people trying to make a career out of music.
Creativity is a part of what makes someone unique. Running a word prompt through a generator is not creative. People need to understand that, without limits, it will make the world robotic and boring. It just recycles ideas and doesn’t think like humans. We have created A.I. and are letting it control our lives and letting it steal away our own brilliant thoughts that could’ve created something that would’ve helped humanity.
Before that happens, the people who have power over this technology should create restrictions and laws that stop it from hurting society. But it starts with the actions of singular people…people who deny A.I. and use their minds to create and be independent…people who refuse to become robotic. Never let a computer dictate your thoughts.
