Sophomore Teagan Pierce, a rising star on the girls golf team, has made quite an impact on the team this year. Despite this only being her second season as a high school golfer, she has improved and become the number one golfer with the best average on the team.

Head Coach Steve Crumlin sees a lot of potential in her and has enjoyed working with her to improve her game over the past two seasons.

“She is probably one of the easiest girls I’ve had the privilege to coach,” Crumlin said.  “She listens and just needs a reminder on occasion.”

Crumlin isn’t the only coach who notices the work Pierce has been putting in, Assistant Coach Hunter Edwards also sees the hard work and improvement she has shown over this season.

“Teagan has been outstanding this year, both from a scoring standpoint and with the team dynamic,” Edwards said. “I’ve never met someone so kind and honest. She’s gotten a lot of compliments from other coaches this season as well, which is great to hear.”

Coaches and Pierce alike have put a lot of effort into improving her skills, and they say it has worked tremendously. This season, Pierce has improved her game immensely, leading her to get eighth place in the Marion County Tournament this year with a score of 107. Her average over this season is around 50 strokes in nine holes, a major improvement from last year.

“She has been our best player since the second match,” Crumlin said. “She has bettered her personal best 3-4 times. [She] improves daily.”

Pierce not only brings better scores to the team but also adds to the team dynamic and to the bonds between the girls.

“Teagan is the heart of this team,” Crumlin said. “She works the hardest, tries every shot and is a great example for all of our girls daily.”

All while being a student athlete, Pierce balances her heavy load of classwork and other commitments with golf. She has found strategies to balance everything and to ensure she keeps her grades up.

“I spend time over the weekend finishing any assignments I have to do, and right before I go to sleep, I work on whatever is due the following day,” Pierce said.

This year, she has a couple of classes that are DC or AP classes, and she is even a part of the girls tennis team in the spring, adding more to her responsibilities.

While the girls golf season has now ended after the Sectional tournament on Sept. 22, Pierce’s journey with golf is just beginning, with two more years ahead of her to build upon her skills even more.

“I am most looking forward to improving my game and hopefully making it past Sectionals for the next two years,” Pierce said.

So, with big goals in mind, Teagan Pierce, coming off a successful season this year is already looking towards the future.
