Warren Central

Starting off the season with a brand new set of members, the boys volleyball team is nearing the end of their season. The upperclassmen who put in work during the sport’s first years at Warren Central High School are happy to see new players join the team.

One of those new members is sophomore King Lossie.

“It’s pretty great,” he said. “[Joining the team] I was kinda surprised I made it because it’s exciting stuff. I have slight skills in volleyball. Freshman year, I was there for a short period of time.”

These new members created goals for this season with this being their first time on the team. Lossie’s goals were to start to get more skills in volleyball, win some games and hopefully get fit and enjoy the sport.

Members who have been on the team before, like junior Andre Ramirez, were especially excited about having new members on the team.

“It feels good to have other members,” Ramirez said. “It lets me know that others care about this sport like I do and shows that this sport will be around when I’m gone. Having new members for this year for something like that I think will be really good because I feel like I get to learn from them as well and see how I can improve myself to better understand them.”

Having new members comes with new goals for the whole team. Junior Devin Slater has been playing for three years now and was happy that new members who have been showing up are mostly freshmen and sophomores.

Most of the teammates that have been on the team for a while were happy to see other people joining and hopefully loving the sport as they do. Since they have mostly juniors and seniors this year, they hope that when they graduate the new members will encourage more people to join and enjoy the sport like they do.

With that, the boys have worked together, considering all the new members, to set a goals. Senior Deivi Hererra-Sanchez has been playing for three years. Seeing people joining what he loves best motivates him to want to be a role model for the new members so when he does leave they will bring in others and inspire them as well.
