School Profile:

The Walker Career Center serves students from Warren Central, New Palestine, Greenfield and Mt. Vernon High Schools. The career center offers twenty programs that utilize state-of-the-art equipment and technology that meet or exceeds industry standards. The career center has something for every student! Our programs serve those students who choose to go directly into the world of work and those students who choose to go on to a two or four year college program. Our programs offer certifications and dual college credit from a number of colleges and universities.

Some of our accomplishments:

  • Jane Pauley Dental Clinic opened in Spring of 2013
  • For two years in a row, Walker Career students traveled to Germany to share their automation projects.

  • Randy Decker is awarded the Mayor’s Community Service Award.
  • Walker Career Center is recognized as one of two Indiana High School to receive STEM certification.
  • On August 25, the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) National Board of Directors, including Vince Bertram CEO, toured Walker Career Center’s PLTW Engineering and Biomedical programs.
  • Dale Bupp has four Automotive Service Technology II students work on ELO’s:
  • Ryan Keaton, Dellen Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram
  • Brandon Lucas, Ed Martin Nissan
  • Kaiser Simunek, Rightway Automotive
  • Jordan Birge, Bob Rohrman's Indy Hyundai
  • Rick Ferguson has a Welding Technology II student working on an ELO’s:                               Sam Shelton, Major Tool and Machine                                                                                   
  • The Warren Robotics VEX teams competed at the KIDS Inc. state qualifying competition on Saturday November 7, 2015.  VEX team 829T was a member of the winning Alliance and qualified for the Indiana VEX State Tournament on March 6, 2015.  Team members were Chase Honious and Katie Osadczuk.
  • Dan Everett and his Construction Trades students finished framing the first ever Tiny House.
  • Walker Career Center ran its first ever all girls section of Introduction to Engineering Design (IED).  IED is the first of a six course PLTW Engineering Pathway.
  • Mayor Greg Ballard was interviewed by Randy Decker in the FrontRunner studio on Tuesday December 8, 2015.  The Mayor and Randy discussed the positive impact of Warren Robotics on the City of Indianapolis.
  • James Hanson and Steve Rogers both presented at the 2015 State PLTW Conference on Monday November 16, 2015 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
  • On September 30, 2015, James Hanson was a keynote speaker and presenter at The Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institutes’ Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Update hosted by the University of Illinois LABS.  James presented to 45 teachers from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota on new technology updates to PLTW’s CIM course.
  • Craig Harvey was selected for a Warren Arts in Education Foundation Grant.  His $500 grant, “Gears” will help his Introduction to Transportation students learn automotive gear ratios.
  • Josh Law established and created the first eSports club whose first year membership exceeded 50 members meeting Monday’s and Friday’s after school.
  • Kevin Cannaday’s Automotive Collision Repair program received a donation of a $20,000 plastic welder from the Collision Repair Education Foundation and I-CAR.  The gift was given because of Walker Career Center’s partnership and excellence in preparing future students in the Automotive Collision Repair field.
  • Culinary program named top 50 program  by Sullivan University
  • FCCLA student and instructor attended the national convention in Washington, D.C..
  • Team Nutrition Grant for Lee Ann and FCCLA
  • The business department has 3 students working at Teachers Credit Union.
  • 9/18 - Mark Boyle of Pacers talks with advanced students, one student gets chance to shadow him this year.
  • Team takes 2nd place at PWC competition
  • 24 seniors participate in multiple luncheons with Finance professionals
  • New logo created and shirts made and donated for Seniors for first time ever
  • Students videotaped 3 separate choir performances and created DVDs to be sold as a fundraiser for the choir program.
  • Students used FrontRunner trailer for multi-camera shoots of every home football game which were streamed online as well as on the video board at the event.
  • Students used FrontRunner trailer for multi-camera shoots of Cathedral High School Volleyball and Basketball games which were streamed online.
  • Dierrius Guyse and Dathan Jones competed in SkillsUSA Regional Competition.  Both students will be moving on to the state competition for Medical Terminology!
  • Ryan Keaton competed in SkillsUSA Regional Competition.  Ryan Keaton will be moving on to the state competition for Auto Service.
  • James Hanson’s Phoenix Contact Nanoline Automation Contest team won the Excellence in Teamwork award at the Midwest Regionals at Purdue University.  Students Michelle Coe, Kayla Hasseld, David Alba-Lopez, Conner Hough, Chris Weaver, and Dawson Willis qualified for the National contest in Hershey Pennsylvania.
