Walker Career Center (WCC) was recognized at the IASB (Indiana Association of School Broadcasters) Spring Conference and Awards on March 14, 2016. Approximately 800 students from Indiana attended the conference with over 400 submissions entered to participate in the radio and television contest categories. Alyseah Ruggs (Warren Central, 12th grade) was a finalist in the Radio Live Newscast category and Colton Howard (Warren Central, 12th grade) was a finalist for the video Live Newscast category. WCC would like to congratulate these two outstanding seniors as well as their instructors, Mr. Whitehair (Radio) and Mr. Pollock (Video) for their hard work and dedication. Congratulations!

Students from Walker Career Center (WCC) participated in the 2016 Indiana State FCCLA State Conference at the Marriott East Hotel. Jaynia Banks (Warren Central High School) earned a silver medal for her Trend Board project. Tayah Bullock and Destiny Mathews (both Warren Central High School students) earned a gold medal for their Beyond the Basics project. Raven Cole (Warren Central High School) and Destiny Mathews earned a gold medal for their Focus on the Basics project. Tayah Bullock, Jaynia Banks, and Jenesis Hoskin got honorable mention for their FCCLA in Action project. Walker Career Center’s FCCLA was also awarded a certificate of recognition for a 10% increase in membership over last year. Adviser, Mrs. Lee Ann DeMoss, was recognized for her 5 years of service as an adviser in Indiana. WCC is proud of these students and as Mrs. DeMoss for their outstanding performance!

For students, one of the College and Career Ready standards’ most important new requirements is that correct answers alone will not be enough. Correct answers are very important, but along with them there is a new set of “mathematical practices” that teachers will expect from students.
